Transformations
Most of us live in old properties that could do with a makeover, both inside and out. Some people take the opportunity to combine a facelift and refurbishment with an upgrade to the thermal fabric and other thermal components improving the energy efficiency of their homes. This would certainly help the planet whilst creating more comfortable living spaces which are more affordable to run.
Passivhaus
With energy prices constantly on the rise and climate change becoming more of a reality, Passivhaus design makes a lot of sense. This building standard provides a high level of occupant comfort while using very little energy for heating and cooling. The rigorous design and construction is based on principles developed by the Passivhaus Institute in Germany, and can be certified through an exacting quality assurance process. CtC architects have trained in Passivhaus design and have completed one project to Passivhaus standards.
New Build
Although land around the Cambridge area for self build projects is considered very scarce, you would be surprised what can be achieved with small building plots. The plot on which this house sits laid abandoned for a number of years and is now a great addition to the neighbourhood, and has enhanced natural surveillance to a cul de sac.
